ELBO ROOM SAN FRANCISCO

ABOUT ELBO ROOM

Elbo Room is located in the historic Mission District of San Francisco on Valencia Street between 17th Street and 18th Street. We are open seven days a week from 5pm–2am. Elbo Room is a 21-and-over club.

Previously a mortuary, the bar originally opened in 1935 as the Prohibition era was coming to a close. Over the years the spot has operated as a Spanish restaurant, a country-western bar (Luke and Larry's), and one of the country’s first all-women’s night clubs (Amelia's). In 1991, Elbo Room was established as a full bar and place of entertainment.

The building is a two-story structure with the main bar downstairs; a secondary bar adjoins the dance floor and stage upstairs. The club caters to a wide range of musical and cultural tastes. On any given night, live bands and DJs play rock, hip-hop, soul, cumbia, funk, salsa, metal, indie, punk, and a helluva lot more. See our Events Listing for a complete list of upcoming shows. Come join us for “San Francisco’s Longest Happy Hour” every day from 5–9 pm, featuring $4 well, $5 draft, and $1 off all other drinks. Most nights, special guest DJs add to the welcoming and low-key atmosphere.

We’ve hosted more than 7,500 shows in the 27 years we’ve been here: Everyone from Charlie Hunter to Ozomatli to Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings . . . not to mention Grupo Fantasma, Dam Funk, Mykki Blanco, Nels Cline, Paul F Tompkins, DJ Logic, Sabbat, and Boy Harsher.

And of course we're huge fans of our local talent, including: Bayonics, Tea Leaf Green, Sila & The AfroFunk Experience, and Soltron.

We have played host to long-running regular events such as Dub Mission (20 years of dub, reggae, dancehall), Soul Party (13 years of 60s soul), Tormenta Tropical (10 years of electro cumbia), and the weekly Afrolicious (7 years of afro-funk).

As strong supporters LGBTQ community, we also host events such as Original Plumbing, Hella Saucey, and Swagger Like Us.

We also like to promote authors and spoken word events like Litquake, LitCrawl, Literary Death Match and Muni Diaries.
